How the count is made
An edit lands here when the article it changed carries coordinates that fall inside this country's outline. Outlines come from Natural Earth at about a kilometre of resolution, matched offline against every edit as it arrives — no geocoding service is asked, and no border dispute is adjudicated. A point just offshore belongs to no country rather than to a guessed one.
Only articles with coordinates can be placed at all, which is roughly a fifth of Wikipedia. Articles about people, ideas and events have no location and are counted in the totals instead. So this is a count of writing about places in this country, not of writing about the country.
